What does the role entail?

As a Research Fellow, your main duties will include:

  • Working with, and in support of, the research collaborators to ensure the project is meeting its planned milestones and in producing meaningful outputs;
  • Obtaining ethical approval;
  • Organising expert panel meetings;
  • Mapping existing pathways for communication with relatives within the PTPP;
  • Translating study materials to Urdu and qualitative data to English;
  • Understanding (a) the UK Medical Research Council framework for developing complex interventions; (b) the International Patient Decision Aids guidelines; and (c) the Ottawa Decision Support Framework;
  • Contributing to the development of an intervention to support decision-making about thalassaemia carrier testing;
  • Ensuring the readability of the intervention;
  • Analysing quantitative data with relevant software
  • Analysing qualitative data using NVIVO;
  • Contributing to the development, organising, facilitating and evaluation of the Skills-building Workshop;
  • Creating a study website to implement the intervention;
  • Developing user feedback questionnaires on the implementation process;
  • Helping to interpret the research findings and exploration of the implications for theory or practice;
  • Contributing to dissemination of the research through publication in leading international journals, independently writing reports or other recognised forms of output, e.g. journal article, academic conference paper, research grant applications;
  • Liaising with research collaborators and providing regular feedback to the research team regarding the progress of the study;
  • Working both independently and also as part of a team of researchers; and
  • Participating in training relevant to the role.

What will you bring to the role?

As Research Fellow you will have:

  • A Master/M.Phil/PhD(preferable) in a subject area relating to applied health services
  • A strong background in applied health research with experience of both quantitative and qualitative research;
  • Good time management and planning skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • A track record of refereed publications in applied health research, of international quality;
  • A proven ability to work well both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Familiarity with qualitative and statistical software and analysis;
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire others;
  • Effective communication and organisation skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and co-operate with others;
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Urdu, Punjabi and English, in writing and verbally;
